This surge has caused tension between our general desire to address social ills and our professed concern for liberty and family, and I suppose it bears repeating as we go further into this election cycle to show our leaders that our common aim is to be people. In this one case, we face a situation that I think would be critical to our success: There is a great deal of discontent in our own society about our lack of understanding of common sense, competence and restraint for various members of our community.
